Maya Advanced

Course Format: Online/Virtual Classroom/Webinar  V

LESSON 1 More Modeling Mojo

Polygons are great, but there&,#146,s much more to modeling than this basic geometry. Your first lesson begins with a look at NURBS, the perfect choice for smooth, precision objects. You&,#146,ll learn a variety of methods for creating NURBS curves and surfaces, including revolves, lofts, birails, and trims. Subdivision surfaces, a cousin of polygons, are also explored to help you get extra detail in your models. An additional focus is strategies for quality, efficient modeling. In the exercise, you&,#146,ll model a character using all three geometry types.

LESSON 2 Bones, Deformations, Skinning, and Other Unpleasant Things

Without bones, a character can&,#146,t move... and without motion, you don&,#146,t have much of a game. This lesson introduces you to the concept of rigging a character, beginning with giving it a skeleton of joints. You&,#146,ll learn to bind the skeleton to a character model,... [Read More]

This course introduces students to 3D modeling and animation using Autodesk Maya for video games and other digital media. Students explore Maya’s powerful toolset while creating 3D objects, 3D characters, basic animation sequences, lighting setups, shaders, and UV maps. Progressively challenging projects lead up to a final scene complete with animation.

Midterm and final critiques provide peer feedback on strengths and weaknesses in the 3D environment, and class discussions allow students to explore concepts in Maya further through readings, extra practice, and critiques of high-profile pieces.

Students learn how to: Develop an understanding of the main tools in the Maya interface and how 3D art is constructed.
Construct 3D models by creating and editing primitives through moving, rotating, scaling, and grouping them.
Manipulate objects by selecting components, and rotating, scaling, and transforming them and using Boolean objects to combine ... [Read More]

Maya Cloth, Hair and Fur

Course Format: Online/Virtual Classroom/Webinar  V

Maya’s Modules to Control Specific Animation Effects
Maya comes with additional modules to control specific animation effects. Some of these include Maya Fur, Artisan, and PaintFX. This course imparts the knowledge necessary to give animations a little extra touch. Sample effects include how to make vines grow up the side of a building and styling hair on an animal. A portion of the class is spent learning the specifics of how each module works, followed by effective ways to incorporate these add-ons. Efficiently managing the additional processing time required for these effects determines their usability. Several of the modules rely on dynamics to drive physical simulations; therefore basic knowledge of Maya’s dynamics is required

Maya 2013 - Animation

Course Format: On-Site/In-House/Private Tutoring  V

This course provides an effective survey of animation principles with Maya® as the animation tool. Maya® is an incredibly powerful animation tool, but using any animation tool without a core understanding of how animation works (and the principles behind effective movement) yields unbelievable and undesirable animation of little use.

During this course, the animation tools made available in Maya® will be explored, but more specifically, these tools will be used to understand and illustrate the principles of animation that truly bring a collection of polygons to life. Among the projects of this course, the character and rig created in “Maya® 2013 ?Character Creation: Modeling, Texturing & Rigging?(or an instructor-provided rig) will be used to make dynamic game-animation cycles and film-quality performances complete with lip sync.
