Maya comes with additional modules to control specific animation effects. Some of these include Maya Fur, Artisan, and PaintFX. This course imparts the knowledge necessary to give animations a little extra touch. Sample effects include how to make vines grow up the side of a building and styling hair on an animal. A portion of the class is spent learning the specifics of how each module works, followed by effective ways to incorporate these add-ons. Efficiently managing the additional processing time required for these effects determines their usability. This course provides an effective survey of animation principles with Maya® as the animation tool. Maya® is an incredibly powerful animation tool, but using any animation tool without a core understanding of how animation works (and the principles behind effective movement) yields unbelievable and undesirable animation of little use.

During this course, the animation tools made available in Maya® will be explored, but more specifically, these tools will be used to understand and illustrate the principles of animation that truly bring a collection of polygons to life. Among the projects of this course, the character and rig created in “Maya® 2013 ?Character Creation: Modeling, Texturing & Rigging?(or an instructor-provided rig) will be used to make dynamic game-animation cycles and film-quality performances complete with lip sync.
