Introduction to CAD / Spatial Modeling

An introductory course to 3D digital media concepts and techniques with a focus on the fundamental aspects of the Computer Aided Design process. Framed by a general introduction to digital media theory, students will gain fluency in a variety of software applications for the purpose of expanding the architectural design process. Specific emphasis is placed on the role of the computer as a tool for analysis, spatial investigation,and representation. Basic 3D modeling software such as AutoCAD, formZ, and Rhino, will constitute the majority of course content.

Piping Applications in CAD

Common piping systems and practices using CAD. Mechanical Engineering Drawing and CAD (Certificate)

This course first presents the basics of drafting, starting with terminology, sketching, hand lettering and line types. After a discussion of multi-view drawing, students will work on an introductory sketching exercise.

The instructor then covers auxiliary and sectional views, as well as principles of measurement, scale and dimensioning. This is following by another sketching session to put these principles to use.

In another lecture session, the instructor discusses the history of Computer Aided drafting, and introduces the free SketchUp program. Students will be familiarized with SketchUp’s user interface and tools before beginning work on practical exercises using SketchUp in the TTi computer lab.
