The Media Arts & Animation program at The Art Institute of Colorado is designed to prepare students for an entry-level career in multimedia design and animation by providing a broad range of design and technology skills to generate visual solutions across media platforms. Through the integration of traditional media and emerging digital technology, new generations of designers have transpired who express their visual creativity through technology.

Media Arts & Animation is the art of communicating concise ideas with images across various modes of media. Animation brings concepts to life and imagination into existence, and is used to effectively communicate messages through various forms of media. The multimedia animation artist is a highly skilled and specialized visual communicator.

Animation

If you love bringing people and ideas to life, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design: major in animation may be a great alternative. Animation is an exciting, innovative and creative field. This Westwood program will prepare you for jobs in film, television and online and computer gaming. Through the creation of animations, using the latest industry-standard software, you’ll learn the skills you need to start a career as an animator. You will also create a final student portfolio to showcase your work and skills to prospective employers.

3D ANIMATION

Encompasses all major aspects of creating 3D characters using animation software. Using developed characters, the student will learn how to animate for personality.

Animation in Flash CS5

Adobe Flash Professional CS5 is a powerful application for creating and editing dynamic vector-based animations. Its versatile workspace and toolset enable developers to quickly create animations that can be used in a wide variety of contexts. This course introduces the learner to animating in Flash. It explores how to create multiple types of animation including inverse kinematics, frame-by-frame animation, and an improved method of creating motion tweens. Advanced animation topics such as masking and using motion presets and the Motion Editor are also covered.

Target Audience
This course targets a range of in-training or established IT professionals needing to learn how to use Flash without any prior experience with the product. Learners are expected to have basic computing and word-processing skills, familiarity with web terminology and Internet navigation, and experience working in a Microsoft Windows or Apple Macintosh environment.

Animation

Employing classical animation studio techniques, this course targets the pre-production and production phases of animation design. Students learn to synthesize elements of an animated movie into a storyboard for production and optimize animations for digital production environments.

Web Animation

Focusing on design and production of animation within the constraints of web applications, this course explores file-size optimization, timing, formatting requirements, and scripting, as well as automated animation techniques and user-mediated animation.

Animation

This course investigates the fundamental principles of digital animation. This course will survey the historical development of the animated film and develop basic skills in preproduction, digital modeling, simulated movement, perception and the basics of digital animation. Additional topics covered include the relationships among; anatomy, motion, weight, and timing through a combination of individual and group projects.

Game Design & Animation (Certificate)

Post University’s 15-credit Certificate in Game Design & Animation will help students turn their passion for gaming into a career in the growing entertainment game industry. Video games, computer simulations, and virtual reality are playing and will continue to play a prominent role in society. The Post University Certificate in Game Design and Animation is geared for students who are seeking a way to enter the exciting world of game design.

The curriculum provides students with the main concepts and skills needed to design 3-dimensional interactive games for entertainment. Working in a collaborative environment, students are provided with theoretical knowledge and practical methods that highlight game theory, game genres, design principles, 3D graphics programming, character animation, game engine architectures, and artificial intelligence in games

3D Modeling & Animation

This course covers the basic concepts of 3D modeling and animation. Students will build a solid foundation and understanding of the basic tools of 3D software. Modeling, animation, lighting, texture mapping, and rendering are introduced in a production setting toward the goal of developing a portfolio project.
